UGA vs TCU Horny Toads - Preview

UGA vs TCU Horny Toads - Preview

The chase for a dynasty continues on Monday and the only thing standing in Georgia’s way is a crappy team from Ft. Worth that’s probably still in shell shock that they didn’t play in the Alamo Bowl.

To say confidence is high would be an understatement. This TCU team hasn’t seen a Dawg like the Georgia Bulldogs. Sure, it might be annoying to face teams like Kansas State and Baylor, but are we really going to say that Georgia wouldn’t have beaten either of those teams by 30 points?

The SEC will reign supreme as it typically does in these games and Alabama fans will have to sit at home for a second straight year begging for Georgia to lose. The fact that the Dawgs are entering this game as 13.5 point favorites should tell you everything that you need to know. Vegas always knows and Vegas is expecting this to be a total blowout. Honestly, this was the worst case scenario for ESPN whose ratings will plummet when this game is 24-0 by halftime and the Dawgs are already giving their shirt sizes for the trophy presentation. Let’s preview this game, what both teams do well, and who the key players will be in this contest.

Bulldogs vs Horned Frogs

One team won a conference championship and the other did not. That’s an important distinction as we talk about these two teams. Georgia has hardly stumbled this year while TCU got under the bright lights at AT&T Stadium in Arlington for the Big 12 Championship Game and couldn’t cut it against a Kansas State that looked like a high school squad against Alabama.

Georgia’s closest game came against Ohio State and in the end, it was the Dawgs walking away with a win. An important factor to note is that OSU was given an entire week off during the conference championship weekend. They entered the semis with more rest than any team playing and they still couldn’t get the job done.

While TCU can boast a couple of close wins and tight games where they walked away with victories, it was the Bulldogs who dominated their opponents from start to finish, never allowing it to be close. Many can misconstrue this but have no doubt that when it comes to the close ones, you don’t have to worry about Georgia being caught off guard.

Strengths: Georgia - Pure Talent

We can talk about the defense, we can talk about the experience, we can talk about how Stetson Bennett literally just won a National Championship, but what I want to focus on is talent level. It just doesn’t compare for these two teams. It really isn’t even close. We are talking about a team that may actually be able to compete in the NFL against a team that could not even win the Big 12.

A massive handful of Georgia’s roster will not just play in the NFL but they will be drafted, nonetheless. The same can’t be said for TCU. Maybe 5-6 guys from their roster will play at the next level and while there are some truly special players on that side of the ball. At the end of the day, you can’t deny how great the Bulldogs are and how they are stacked with depth at each and every position. There are no doubts and no worries that their guys can’t keep up with TCU’s.

Strengths - TCU - Offense

I’m not gonna say a lot of kinda things about TCU but I do think Max Duggan is one heck of a player and he has ignited this offense all season long. It’s clear that he can use his legs and has a big arm. The Horned Frogs are almost last in time of possession despite having an elite offense because they score so damn quickly. Again, I’m not all that concerned given Georgia’s defense and the offense’s ability to match them. But I will give flowers where flowers are due.

Players to Watch

Jalen Carter - Georgia - DT

A special talent that will be a first round pick and likely inside the top-5. Jalen Carter was a star on a National Championship team from a year ago and he has been a star this entire season as well. Ohio State was having to triple-team Carter during the Peach Bowl which was clearing the lane to the quarterback. Getting pressure on Duggan will be key and Carter will play a massive role in that.

Quentin Johnston - WR- TCU

Johnston will likely be the first or second wide receiver off the board in this year’s draft. Georgia has to clean up a few plays from the OSU game but if they limit Johnston they limit home run play possibility.

Prediction

Let’s get down to the important stuff which is who will actually win this game and how much Georgia will win by. The Dawgs are the best team in the nation, it really ain’t close. This team is going to roll TCU so badly that the Horned Frogs will wish they didn’t win a few of those close games and force themselves into this contest.

I see Georgia going up big and this game never being close. Give me the Dawgs by two and a half scores. I’ll take the good guys 37-20 and the dynasty will roll on with a second straight National Championship.
