The Dynasty has officially begun. The ass whoopin of a lifetime was handed out by the Dawgs. Not only did Kirby Smart and company repeat as national champs but they did it in a way that left no doubt that they are the best team in the country and will be for a very long time.
From the first snap of the game, it was clear who was going to win that game. As Stetson Bennett ran this offense up and down the field and Max Duggan dug himself into a grave, the dynasty was etching itself into the history books. Georgia is in a rare position where not only have they won two championships but are in a prime position to add a third.
Hell, even David Pollack said on ESPN that Georgia has taken over college football as some guy named Nick Saban sat to his right. When you beat a team down so badly in the Natty that potential recruits might not leave that school, it says something about your program. Think about that, TCU made it to the national championship and they may have wished that they hadn’t.
Of course, as this team walked off the field at SoFi Stadium, this legendary roster has closed a chapter. Many will still be around, but some of the leaders who we have come to love and know will be gone. Stetson Bennett is 25 years old, Jalen Carter is projected to be a top-five pick in the draft, Nolan Smith, Kelee Ringo, Broderick Jones, and Darnell Washington are just a few others who likely fly off the shelf in round one.
Long story, short - this roster is going to lose some talent and that is inevitable. We are likely looking at 15 or more key players leaving after this championship run. While most programs would be panicking and running around like the sky is falling, there is no worry in Athens. This team will be here next year and they are loaded with talent. Like a faith preacher at a megachurch, I am here screaming at you to have faith. The Dawgs can repeat and I will show you why.
No Stetson? No Problem.
Stetson Bennett will go down as an all-time great Georgia Bulldog and one of the greatest quarterbacks in history of the program, and there are still great reserves waiting for their chance.
Carson Beck and Brock Vandagriff are going to duke it out in the spring and fall for the coveted position of starter and both of these options are top-notch. If these guys entered the transfer portal today, they would both be highly sought after from all directions and would be immediate starters at 99 percent of schools in the nation.
Beck is a former 4-star QB who was the backup to Bennett this season. He has thrown 35 passes at UGA, completing 26 of those for 310 passing yards and four scores. He can be the natural successor to Stetson and I don’t think this offense drops off.
What’s crazy is that Vandagriff has a real shot at actually elevating this offense to a whole new level. Let’s not forget that he was one of the best QBs in the nation coming out of high school. A former five-star recruit out of Georgia, he was ranked the 4th best QB in the nation in 2021. Kirby loves athleticism at the QB position and this guy has it. We could be looking at the next great signal caller in UGA history in this guy.
The Weapons Remain
Regardless of who is at QB, Beck as a game manager or Vandagriff as a dynamic athlete, the weapons will be there for them. Darnell Washington is gone, Kenny McIntosh and Kearis Jackson will leave, and a few key offensive lineman will follow suit. But don’t for a second think that no one will be there to pick up the pieces.
Kendall Milton is likely coming back and should have the number one role carved out. Brock Bowers is coming back and has a shot to be the best tight end in the country and become a legit top-two round draft pick in a year. Ladd McConkey could come back and if he does, watch out, one of the most versatile guys in the country is lining up on Georgia’s side of the ball.
I am excited for guys like Arian Smith, the former 14th wide receiver in the nation, to get his shot to shine. Or how about Dominick Blaylock who was the 7th best player in the state out of Marietta, or Oscar Delp who was the top tight end in the nation. We can’t forget about Branson Robinson, the ninth best back in the nation. These guys will fill in the vacancies and become fan favorites who excel at the greatest football program in the nation.
Don’t worry about the defense
In the first two rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft, there were five defensive players taken in the first two rounds. Three or four more will be added to the first two rounds of this upcoming NFL Draft. There is a difference between a top recruit out of high school and a college player becoming a drafted player. In between those two steps comes development and coaching. Georgia has the very best of the best.
Sure, you can say that they are losing a ton of talent. But they have the secret sauce that makes it so good. I can assure you that the combined 11 top-50 recruits from the 2022 and 2023 class who play defense will be close to, if not guaranteed, NFL talent by the time they walk out of the doors in Athens. This program isn’t a third-base program because they inherited it, this is a home run program because of how they make their talent that much better.
This defense is stacked with pro-caliber players and they have all the resources and history to continue to improve.
2024
With all that said, book your flights and hotels for Houston because NRG Stadium is going to be the Dawg House next January. We have seen it in two straight years and there is nothing that tells me it won’t happen for a third. Move over Bama, the new college football dynasty is here and it isn’t going anywhere.
We'd love to hear from you
