2023 Georgia Bulldog's Season Prediction

2023 Georgia Bulldog's Season Prediction

Are you ready for the Dawgs? Us fans are but the rest of the country and all of college football shouldn’t be. Georgia is coming off a second-straight National Championship. The dynasty has begun in Athens and this is only the beginning. Bammer is as good as dead in the water and there is no one else in the SEC, or country for that matter, that has the talent or recruiting prowess to keep up with us.

It’s time for a season preview to get back into the swing of things. We are asking the big questions and breaking down the most important position. Ultimately, we need to talk about the expectations for this squad…which are HIGH.

This regular season is the first in a few years without Stetson Bennett, but I’m still not nervous about the quarterback position or the opponents who we will face. First, let’s break down the quarterbacks.

Quarterbacks

There will be a battle between Carson Beck and Brock Vandagriff. Beck has been with the program since 2020 and has patiently waited his turn to get the offense. Last year, he appeared in seven games and threw for 310 yards and four touchdowns. He has a ton of confidence from Aaron Murray’s high praise of him, and let’s not forget that he was a top-10 quarterback in his class and a highly coveted four-star recruit. Beck could have transferred just about anywhere in the last few seasons with the emergence of Bennett, but he has decided to stay home each time and he could be rewarded.

How about Vandergriff? He has one less year of experience than Beck, but he came in as a much higher ranked prospect, the second best player in the entire state of Georgia and the 14the best player nationally. There could be talks of him, or Beck, transferring if he doesn't start this year.

Beck has admittedly been the better option during the spring, but here’s what I know. Regardless of who the starting quarterback is for the first game of the year, they will lead this team back to a deep postseason run, if not another national championship. Not only that, I am so confident in Georgia’s ability to develop talent that I truly believe that the starter will be in the talk for a Heisman. They are surrounded by so much talent at the running back and wide receiver position that it is tough to not be ahead of the competition when you are the quarterback for the Dawgs.

Schedule

Undefeated regular season. That’s what I am going with for this team. When I look up and down the schedule, I see teams that could potentially give the Dawgs a little trouble, but none that can deliver a lethal bite.

Let’s start with the first four games of the schedule. If you think that Ball State or Tennessee Martin will pose any issues, you must be smoking something that is pretty potent. Those two teams will lay down, take their paycheck, and ask when they can come back.

After that, the Dawgs get their first SEC opponent in South Carolina. Sure, Spencer Rattler looked better last season and the Gamecocks made strides, but this is still a team that the Dawgs beat 48-7 a season ago. That’s a win.

Trent Dilfer is now the head coach at UAB, but I certainly don’t think his jump from high school to college will be ready for a team called the Georgia Bulldogs.

Next up is Auburn. They are entering a new era with Hugh Freeze at the helm and I would expect them to be a whole lot better than they were the last two seasons. However, UGA beat them 42-10 last year…what do you think is really going to happen this year?

After a four-game stretch against Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Florida, and Missouri which should be a breeze, the Dawgs run into arguably their toughest two games on the schedule. They’ll play back-to-back games against Ole Miss and Tennessee.

Realistically they are winning these games, the talent level isn’t comparable but it’s definitely the two on the schedule that standout as the toughest. Tennessee knocked off the fools from Tuscaloosa last year and they have the program turned around, but I'll see if they can string that together for two straight seasons.

As far as the postseason goes? We know that the Dawgs will enter as the first or second ranked team in the country, no doubt about it. The usual suspects should be in line this year, but my prediction for the semis is this:

1. Georgia

2. Ohio State

3. Alabama

4. USC

Caleb Williams in a semi against the Dawgs should be fun because it is fun to watch him lose and the USC offense would have no answers for this UGA defense. Sure some pieces have been lost to the draft but the great thing about Kirby Smart is that he knows how to replenish and at this point, the system is working on its own. Georgia is a total destination for talent.

For the sake of an entertaining National Championship, I’ll take Bammer over Ohio State which sets up a rematch of an SEC Title Game that the Dawgs win.

I have no doubt that Georgia handles Alabama and makes it a three-peat. I am so not impressed by Jalen Milroe and what I have seen out of him so far and once again, this UGA defense is light years ahead of the country.
